Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
