19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
